Telehealth statewide

Online therapy anywhere in New York State, with the same clinician every week.

Not a platform, not a rotating pool of counsellors, not a chat subscription. The same licensed clinician you would see in Chelsea, over secure video, wherever in the state you happen to be.

Where I can and cannot see you

I am licensed in New York State, which means I can work with you anywhere within it. That is a legal boundary rather than a preference, and it is worth understanding.

New York City and the five boroughs, obviously. Also Westchester, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, the Capital Region, the Southern Tier, Central New York, the Finger Lakes, Buffalo and the whole western corner. If you are physically in New York State at the time of the session, we can meet.

If you move out of state permanently, licensure rules mean I cannot continue as your therapist there, and I would rather tell you that on the consult call than three months in. Short trips are usually manageable and we can plan around them. Tell me in advance and I will be straight about what is workable.

Does it work as well as being in the room?

For most people and most presentations, the research says yes, with outcomes broadly comparable to in person work. My own experience matches that with a couple of honest caveats.

Video is slightly harder for reading whole body arousal, so I will ask more direct questions about what is happening physically. It suits some people considerably better than the office does, particularly clients who find eye contact costly, clients with social anxiety, and anybody for whom the commute itself was a barrier that quietly ate the motivation.

Where I would push for in person is with certain kinds of trauma work where being physically in a room with another person is part of what makes it safe, and in situations where home is not a private or safe place to speak. If that applies, say so and we will find a workable arrangement.

The practical setup

You get a secure link the day before. It opens in a browser. There is no app, no account, no download, and no third party platform holding your session records. Headphones improve it considerably. A stable connection matters more than a good camera.

Privacy is the real constraint rather than technology. If you share a flat, a parked car is a legitimate and widely used therapy venue. Some clients book a quiet room at a library. Some walk while we talk, which works better than you would think for certain kinds of conversation. We will find something.

If the connection drops

We have a plan for it agreed in session one, which is simply that I call your phone. It happens occasionally and it is not a crisis. Session time lost to a technical failure on my end is made up.

How the work goes

Same hour, same clinician, minus the round trip across two boroughs.

A calm loft living room with afternoon light

Set it up once

Secure link, headphones, and a private enough spot. Ten minutes of setup before the first session prevents the awkward first ten minutes of the first session.

Agree a fallback

What we do if the connection drops, and how to reach me if it does. Decided in advance so nobody is improvising.

Work exactly as we would in person

Same fifty minutes, same depth, same weekly rhythm, same clinician. Telehealth is a delivery method, not a lighter version of the therapy.

Review the format too

At the six to eight week review we check whether video is serving you or whether some in person sessions would help.

Questions

What people ask before starting.

Do you use Zoom or a therapy app?

A secure browser based video platform built for clinical use, with no app or account required. You will get a link by email the day before each session.

Can I see you if I live upstate?

Yes, anywhere in New York State. A good portion of my caseload is outside the five boroughs, including people who moved out of the city and wanted to keep the same clinician.

What if I travel for work?

Sessions while you are physically in New York State are straightforward. Travel outside the state gets complicated by licensure and varies by jurisdiction, so tell me your dates in advance and I will be honest about what I can do.

Is online therapy cheaper?

The fee is the same, because the work and the hour are the same. What it saves you is the commute, which for many clients is the difference between attending consistently and drifting out of therapy.

Ready to bring yourself in the most self loving way

A first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Fifteen minutes on the phone is usually enough to tell whether we are a fit.
